The Prestige
is about two magicians in the making who start out as friends
but become bitter rivals.
It's also very hard to follow, with all
the trickery they do on the audience. Still, I forgive them and
found it fun to watch.
It will keep you guessing until the very
end--it's all about magic. |
The Prestige
is a great gimmick movie.
With its flashback within a flashback framework,
it's very reminiscent of director Christopher Nolan's other non-linear
film, Memento.
Though it pales alongside this year's other
magic film, The Illusionist, it still has some interesting
surprises, mostly by the strong performances by both Hugh Jackman
and Christian Bale as unlikable rival magicians.
Abracadabra! |
This is a story of two brainy Victorian
London magicians who become locked in an escalating rivalry over
who can do the best magic tricks.
The two men start out as competitive friends,
but in the end are intent on the other's destruction, because
of a personal loss in one of their past magical achievements. |
