PACIFIC GROVE NATURE & ENVIRONMENT

Bark peeling from Eucalyptus tree at Greenwood Park
The Pacific Grove area is home to a large variety of land and sea mammals, as well as abundant bird, native plant, and intertidal life.

Central to the town's image is the
Monarch Butterfly. John Steinbeck had a few things to say about them, too.

The natural wonders that bless Pacific Grove give residents a strong desire to provide stewardship of these irreplaceable resources. Sometimes, determining the best way to balance conservation priorities with economic realities leads to hot political debate. The venerated Monarch Butterfly, omnipresent raccoon, tide-tossed invertebrate, and pitch canker-ravaged Monterey Pine have all become grist for the political mill.
