I thought there just couldn't be another boxing film left.

I was wrong.

This true story of boxer "Irish" Mickey Ward, played by Mark Wahlberg, who at age 31 became an unlikely champ under the guidance of his brother Dickie (Christian Bale), a former contender turned crack addict.

This picture The Fighter has it all -- family drama, action in the ring, romance, and comes across as nothing less than 100% authentic, even if you don't care for boxing.

This is a must see.

The Fighter really isn't a sports film.

Yes, it has training and boxing, but it's really about family.

Mark Wahlberg turns in a fine understated performance, but it's the great ensemble cast that puts it all together.

Christian Bale and Amy Adams are outstanding in their roles and will probably be noticed come Oscar time.

It's a really good movie about a dysfunctional family.

And, yeah, boxing.

The Fighter is a true-life inspirational and entertaining tale from start to finish.

Actor / producer Mark Wahlberg plays real-life boxer Mickey Ward, who went from taking his lumps from better fighters to triumphs in the ring.

He did so despite and because of a big dysfunctional family, including six sisters, and over-bearing mother, and an older half-brother whose own boxing career was cut short by drug addiction and imprisonment.

The movie has a great supporting cast, with Oscar possibilities for both genders.
