ARTHUR

v
This remake of the 1981 film Arthur didn't work like the first go-around with Dudley Moore.

Now in 2011, hopeless drunks are rarely looked upon as funny.

I found that most of the scenes fall flat with not very good humor at all.

This new Arthur lives like a spoiled rich drunken child, and throws out a few amusing lines but suffers from a poor ratio of funny stuff.

I'm sorry to say this film did nothing for me.

Now excuse me -- I need a drink.
The trouble with remakes is that it will always be compared to the original, in this case an original that took home two Academy Awards.

No such problem here, although this tepid remake is mildly amusing.

It has good actors struggling with a lousy script.

Arthur is portrayed more like a spoiled child than a sophisticated drunk, with poorly edited scenes thrown in to prove just how wild his life is.

It's a waste of good talent -- it should have been more fun.
This new remake of the 30-year-old comedy called Arthur is a disaster as far as I'm concerned.

I found the male star, who plays a wealthy, childish, and continuously drunken playboy (like the original) has a problem with his high, sing-song, whiny little-boy voice, which takes over the whole show and makes it irritating.

He also doesn't seem to connect with anyone on screen.

It's hard to separate the screwball character's self-indulgence from that of the actor playing him.
