Welcome to the home of the 17 Mile Drive Club.

The club's mission is to place directional signs throughout Pacific Grove that point the way towards 17 Mile Drive. If you have placed a sign pointing tourists to the most requested destination on the Monterey Peninsula, you qualify for membership.

This pragmatic, proactive, and fun approach to providing visitor information attempts to cut through the red tape of government bureaucracy. Many months ago, members of the business community asked for signs to direct traffic through the downtown business district towards the popular tourist destination in Pebble Beach.

An official city sign (called the Mother Sign) was placed along the recreation trail at Oceanview Blvd. between Grand and Forest avenues, and directs traffic up Forest or Grand avenues. There was an earlier version, which was replaced: it looked so much like a street sign that people thought they were turning onto 17 Mile Drive itself!

Unfortunately, no additional signs have been placed along the route to 17 Mile Drive, so presumably hapless motorists have continued up Forest Hill until they realize they are lost. Let's help them find their way!

This sign has been installed at Fountain and Lighthouse avenues.

You don't have to follow a prescribed path -- if enough individuals post signs, the mission will be accomplished. Creativity in sign creation is encouraged.
